Precious point for Police

POLICE started the season minus three but ended the day minus two following the 0-0 draw with Sabah in Sunday’s Super League match at KLFA Stadium.

The newly-promoted side were docked three points before the start of the season for failing to settle salary arrears.

Police coach Ishak Kunju was satisfied with his team, who had seven enforcement personnel in their starting line-up on Sunday, and believes things will get better.

Realising that he does not have big names in his squad, Ishak revealed that they will be compact and mean against their top-tier opponents in the hope of surviving in the league.

On Sunday, Police were tight at the back and compact in every department as they frustrated a dominant Sabah.

“Our immediate mission is to wipe out our points deduction,” said Ishak yesterday.

“But we are not going to go for the broke and just attack in every game just to wipe it out.

“We plan to make life difficult for our opponents by being compact and defensive.

“We had a difficult pre-season due to many issues. However, my players did not let it bother them against Sabah.

“They need to have the self-belief that they can match any team.

“I had seven Police personnel in the line-up yesterday (Saturday), and although they were short in terms of ability compared to Sabah players, they showed grit and determination.

“The beauty of our team is that we do not have superstars. The draw is a good indication that we are in the right direction.”
