Morales dreams of playing for Harimau Malaya

Colombian Romel Morales hopes to don Harimau Malaya colours one day.

The attacking midfielder is only two years away from applying for a Malaysian passport.

The 23-year-old is likely to sign with newly-promoted Super League side Kuala Lumpur for the new season.

Morales debuted in the M-League with PKNS in 2018 before joining Melaka for the 2020 season.

He is currently without a club, but KL are keen on signing the player.

The FA of Malaysia (FAM) had confirmed earlier that Morales is on their list of foreign-born players short-listed for the naturalisation programme. Asked whether the City Boys will be signing Morales, KLFC chief executive office Stanley Bernard hinted: "We are close."

Stanley said KL are impressed with Morales as he has been consistent in the last three seasons with his former clubs.

"He has a natural gift, and for his age, he is showing maturity in his game. I think with some fine-tuning, he will be a better player," said Stanley, adding that Morales will likely sign with KL for the new season.

Morales made 10 appearances for Melaka in the shortened Super League season and scored three goals. With PKNS (over two seasons), he featured 43 times and scored 10 goals.
