'Driver, please take me to the best club in Malaysia'

KUALA LUMPUR: Speculations over the future of Malaysia's first naturalised player, Mohamadou Sumareh were put to rest today when Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) confirmed the signing of the Gambian-born forward.

The Southern Tigers made the official announcement in a voguish way via a video clip on their social media platforms.

"Driver, please take me to the best club in Malaysia," Sumareh was quoted as saying.

Earlier, speculations were rife that the 26-year-old would sign for JDT after leaving Thai side, Police Tero FC.

Sumareh joined the Southern Tigers amid much controversy. Recently, Fifa ordered the Pahang FA to pay Sumareh RM4.9 million in backdated salary and for breach of contract.

Sumareh left the Pahang team in August last year after claiming the club had failed to pay his salary in accordance with his contract.

The RM4.9 million is an accumulation of the annual increments owing plus the breach of contract for 2020 and 2021. It is the largest amount won by a player in the M-League.
