KLUFC throw lifeline to Morales

Colombian player Romel Morales thanked KL United FC (KLUFC) for coming to his rescue after he was left in the lurch by Melaka United FC (MUFC) late last year.

The 23-year-old attacking midfielder said he was baffled by the sad episode, and he claimed that MUFC have not fully paid him his salary.

Morales played for PKNS FC for two seasons, in 2018-2019, before joining Melaka last year.

In last season's shortened M-League, Morales made 10 appearances for MUFC, scoring three goals to help them finish ninth in the Super League.

"I don't know what really happened at Melaka (after the 2020 season ended). I was kept waiting for a month after they (MUFC) told me they will renew my contract.

"So, I waited for their offer for the 2021 season, and I didn't go back home (to Colombia).

"After a month, no one (from MUFC) explained anything to me, but I got a WhatsApp text, saying 'Sorry Romel, we cannot renew your contract', and nothing more.

"I was surprised, I didn't know what to say, so I called my agent, explaining what happened.

"And that time, everyone's (M-League teams) roster was probably full, so it's tough to find a job.

"I was in a bad situation but thank God, I have been given a chance by KLUFC to join them. Their management contacted me and they gave me this opportunity."

Morales declined to disclose the amount MUFC still owe him but said he was paid some but not all of the salary arrears.

Morales said he is feeling good with the City Boys, and he looks forward to a good run in the Super League with Kuala Lumpur.

"I just came back (from Colombia) and joined my new team. I want to do something good here.

"I like the city, its people, everything here. I am ready to play and give my best."
