'Colombian Morales could add Latin flair to Malaysia'

KUALA LUMPUR: KL City's Colombian star Romel Morales could add Latin flair to Malaysia's Asian Cup campaign, said his agent, Effendi Jagan Abdullah.

Morales first came to Malaysia in 2018 at the age of 21 and joined PKNS. He turned out for Melaka United in 2020 before becoming a hit with KL City, helping them to win the 2021 Malaysia Cup.

Effendi said the versatile Morales has the ability to bring a different dimension to the national team.

Effendi, who is considered the super agent of Malaysian football, having brought in top players for M-League clubs, said: "Morales was very young when he came to Malaysia. Datuk K. Rajagobal played a key role by giving him a break with PKNS. Then Datuk Zainal Abidin Hassan coached him at Melaka and after that, Bojan Hodak (KL) trained him as he evolved into a deadly forward.

"He is one of the top talent in the M-League. I don't see him having a problem fitting into the national team as he has been in the country from a young age and has adapted well.

"I see him as an asset in the national team because of his Latin flair. I feel he will shine in the No. 10 role, which is his natural position.

"He's very comfortable playing behind the striker and this could help Malaysia's Asia Cup campaign."

Morales is expected to receive his Malaysian citizenship soon and could play in the Asian Cup from Jan 12-Feb 10 in Qatar.

In his five M-League seasons with three different clubs, Morales scored 46 goals in 148 appearances.

Harimau Malaya have seven naturalised players in Endrick Dos Santos, Paulo Josue, Guilherme De Paula, Lee Tuck, Sergio Aguero, Mohamadou Sumareh and Liridon Krasniqi. And the inclusion of Morales could add more options in Malaysia's attack.
