Shadow over Kedah's playing licence

Will Kedah lose their playing licence for next season's Super League? This is the question following a report alleging that Kedah FA (KFA) owed the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) RM10 million.

The claim of players' income tax payment not being made between 2014 and 2019 is under investigation.

Malaysian Football League (MFL) chief executive officer Stuart Ramalingam said should the IRB make a decision or the matter go to court, then it becomes a licensing matter.

"They have not been charged on any ground or found guilty. From what I've read, it's only a social media statement," said Stuart.

"We will look into this if there is action from IRB. We will take action if necessary."

On Thursday, Kedah tourism, arts and culture, youth and sports, and entrepreneur development and cooperatives committee chairman Firdaus Ahmad revealed that KFA owed the IRB RM10 million after the authorities reviewed documents related to wages from 2014 to 2019.

Under MFL's licensing requirement, M-League clubs need to submit audited and financial reports on IRB, EPF and Socso matters.

Last year, KFA suffered financial turmoil and their players were without salary for five months.

Nevertheless, the Red Eagles finished second in this season's Super League and booked their ticket to the AFC Cup.
