Perak 'freed' by Fifa to sign players

WITH Fifa lifting the transfer ban on Perak, their hopes of winning promotion back to the top flight Super League have been boosted.

The Premier League strugglers were sanctioned by Fifa earlier this year for failing to pay their players. Perak's debts, amounting to RM1.7 million, also included claims by players' agents.

As a result, they were docked nine points by the Malaysian Football League (MFL) in April.

Perak are currently bottom of the 10-team Premier League with "minus three points" after nine matches.

However, Perak are trying to get back on their feet with new owner XOX Berhad settling their debts, as confirmed by Fifa.

Perak FC chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azim Mohd Zabidi, in a press statement, said the 2018 Malaysia Cup champions are now free to sign new players.

"I need to thank the FA of Malaysia and MFL for their assistance and guidance. It was our main agenda to get the club to be able to register calibre players. Unfortunately, we had to play the first half of the season with a limited squad and points docking.

"This shows our commitment to ensure Perak could keep its 101-year history and step forward for more success in the future.

"We also must not forget the efforts of our junior players who had given their best in the first half of the season," he said.

Perak will test three imports — Croat Stipe Plazibat, Argentine Luciano Guaycochea and Nigerian Sunday Kolawole Afolabi — in a friendly match against Christian Seoul University at the Perak Stadium on Sunday.
