Sanusi gets mind games rolling, backs Terengganu to win 2022 FA Cup final

ALOR STAR: Kedah Football Association (KFA) president, Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, appears to have gotten mind games rolling ahead of the 2022 FA Cup final this weekend.

The Kedah Menteri Besar, whose running battle with Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) owner and Johor Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim made headlines earlier this year, today reiterated his wish for Terengganu FC to defeat overwhelming favourites JDT in the final on Saturday.

Sanusi said his support for Terengganu was consistent with his stand of rooting for the underdogs, coupled with the fact that his wife was from the east coast state.

He also claimed that he "wasn't the only one" hoping for a Terengganu win, and that everyone save for Johor folk would agree with him.

"If Terengganu FC, loses I accept it with open arms. People like me usually support the underdogs.

"I'm sure that all Malaysians will also support Terengganu. If you don't believe me, just wait and see.

"Also, my wife is from Terengganu. As of now, I don't have a wife from Johor yet," he quipped.

Sanusi was speaking to reporters after officiating a flag handover ceremony at Dewan Seri Mentaloon, Alor Star, today, in conjunction with the Malaysia Games (SUKMA).

Yesterday, Sanusi shared a 22-second video on his Facebook page showing him wearing a Terengganu FC team jersey.

The clip provoked various reactions. Some said the Kedah MB was obviously "baiting" a particular individual while others joked that he appeared to be pulling out all the stops to win over his wife.

The 2022 FA Cup final will take place at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium.

In the semi-finals, JDT sailed past Penang FC with a score of 6-1 while Terengganu FC beat Selangor FC 4-2 through penalty kicks after the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
