Gan-ning for any position

KUALA LUMPUR: Midfielder Brendan Gan said if national football coach Kim Pan Gon plays him as a goalkeeper in the ongoing AFF Cup, he would do so.

Pan Gon tried the Selangor player as a centreback in Saturday's match against Laos at Bukit Jalil, No Laotians got past Brendan on that day as Malaysia won 5-0.

Brendan, 34, who is of Australian-Malaysian heritage, said Pan Gon and his coaching staff know the ability and suitability of the players for certain positions.

"Once I was told (about the position), I would just do it. There is quality around the squad and those put in certain positions, can do the job."

Brendan is positive that the Malaysian team can put up a fight against two-time champions Vietnam in a Group B match in Hanoi today.

"We'll be able to put up a performance, just need to go in with confidence, give it our best and give Vietnam a tough game," he said.

Dubbed the "midfield general", Brendan has made 22 appearances for Harimau Malaya since 2015.
