Sony on song for Turtles

KUALA LUMPUR: Haitian hitman Sony Norde put the cherry on the icing for Terengganu after they fought back from two goals down to beat Stallions Laguna 3-2 in their AFC Cup Group H match at the Binan Football Stadium in Manila today.

The 34-year-old had a sensational outing, netting the winner (86th minute), before forcing an own goal from Matthew Nierras (33rd) and assisting Ivan Mamut's equaliser (67th).

Earlier, the hosts had taken the lead through Cameroonian striker Junior Ngong Sam (third) and Griffin McDaniel (14th).

The win extended Terengganu's unbeaten run in the AFC Cup and put them on top of their group with eight points from four matches, while Stallion remained bottom with just a point.

Terengganu coach Tomislav Steinbruckner hailed Norde's contribution but said his men must do better as they wasted several gilt-edged chances.

"We took three points, but we were behind 0-2, which wasn't nice. I'm glad we got an own goal and in the second half, we were much better and could have scored more," said the Croatian coach.

"We hit the post three times, and we had eight situations that could have led to a goal. I have to salute the Stallions because the goals they scored were individually brilliant.

"If we want to be serious in this competition, we must be better ... a lot better. We have to buck up for the next match."
