Arif aims to finish ACL campaign on a high

JOHOR BARU: Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) star Arif Aiman Hanapi is looking to continue his strong form against BG Pathum United FC when the two sides lock horns in the Asian Champions League (ACL) at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium tomorrow.

Arif scored two goals in JDT's 4-2 away win against BG Pathum on Oct 3 and is expecting the latter to have studied his game.

Both teams, who compete in Group I, have missed out on qualifying for the last-16.

"BG Pathum are a strong team and have done well in Thailand. I will commit myself 100 per cent in the match. Every game is a new challenge which we need to view positively," said Arif today.

"We are motivated and have prepared well. Of course we want to finish our ACL campaign with a win.

"I believe the match will be tough as they already know my playing style well and will be marking me closely.

"But that will not deter me, I will play an aggressive game and help JDT finish as winners after 90 minutes."

Arif has won the National Football Awards Most Valuable Player award for two seasons in a row now and has impressed on the ACL stage.

He, however, stressed that he has no plans to move abroad at the moment.

"I am placing more emphasis on improving my game rather than thinking about playing aboard," said Arif.

"As a local player, having the chance to play in ACL offers me the opportunity to learn and improve myself.

"If we (local players) can play well at the ACL level it means we can match the quality of the players in ACL. There is no point in playing in Asia if you are not able to play at that standard."
