Woman travels solo to support Harimau Malaya

KUALA LUMPUR: The spirit and support shown by Harimau Malaya fans and supporters has not waivered one bit.

In fact, there are also female fans and supporters who are willing to go the distance by traveling solo just to watch the national side in action at the Asian Cup in Qatar.

Recently on TikTok, a few videos were uploaded by a female supporter of the national team who was willing to travel overseas just to support Harimau Malaya, and her exploits caught the attention of quite a few netizens.

According to the woman, who prefers to be known only as Fuza, she has been following Harimau Malaya's exploits and developments for quite some time now.

"I am very active in following the exploits and developments of Harimau Malaya and I frequently go to local stadiums in the country to attend football matches.

"This was the first time in my life where I made the decision to travel overseas to support Harimau Malaya, and to go on my own," she said.

Fuza, who is in her 30s, said the main reason for going to Qatar was to watch Harimau Malaya in action as Malaysia had not taken part in the Asian Cup for more than four decades prior to this.

"However, traveling alone was something unexpected really. Initially I had planned to go there with a friend. However she had to cancel the plans because her leave was not approved.

"Even though initially I was sceptical and had reservations about going, the positive feedback and reviews that I read about how well the World Cup was organised in Qatar brought relief and drove me to go ahead despite being alone," she said.

When asked about her plans to watch Malaysia play matches in other countries, Fuza said that she might just go and watch such matches.

"Insya-Allah, I will go, but it all depends on the situation. Even though I was alone, I got to know and meet many people and now I am contemplating, planning to go to Kyrgyzstan for the World Cup qualifier," she told Harian Metro.

Fuza said the invaluable experience of traveling solo to watch the match was well worth it, even though the national side did not make it past the group stage after managing only a point from three matches.
