Merdeka Stadium is 70 per cent ready for Sultan of Selangor Cup

KUALA LUMPUR: The iconic Merdeka Stadium has passed inspection to host the prestigious Sultan of Selangor Cup (TSSC) on Aug 17.

The 20th edition of the TSSC is making its return after four years.

TSSC chairman Tan Sri Abd Karim Munisar and PNB Merdeka Ventures chief executive officer Tengku Datuk Ab Aziz Tengku Mahmud gave the thumbs up to the venue during a site visit today.

Karim said the stadium is 70 per cent ready to hold the match.

"Only some minor works are needed concerning the pitch. I am confident the venue will be ready.

"The venue will be able to accommodate between 20,000 and 25,000 fans for the match," said Karim.

The Merdeka Stadium was home venue of Selangor and Harimau Malaysia.

The last time the venue hosted a M-League match was in February 2015, when KL City played their opening Premier League game against Sabah.

In October 2001, Malaysia drew 1-1 with Cambodia, which marked the last international match at the venue.
