FAM tells Kuzain to get his papers ready if he wants to be a Harimau

KUALA LUMPUR: After what happened the last time, expect FAM to look at Wan Kuzain Wan Kamal like an overzealous immigration officer.

As talks of the United States-based footballer surfaced again, FAM's response is: Make sure to get your Malaysian passport ready.

In 2019, things didn't work out for Kuzain after he faced documentation problem and couldn't play in the Manila Sea Games.

Now, FAM has told Wan Kuzain, 25, to make sure all his citizenship papers are in order if he wishes to don the national jersey.

FAM secretary general Datuk Noor Azman Rahman said Wan Kuzain needs to get his Malaysian passport first before he can join the national team.

Kuzain has been playing professional football with St Louis City in the US where he made 51 appearances since 2022 and scored 10 goals.

Earlier this week, Azman said several overseas-based players with ties to Malaysia are on FAM radar.

These players of Malaysian descent are Dutch club Go Ahead Eagles' right back Mats Deijl, Barcelona B winger Naim Garcia, PSV Eindhoven striker Jason Van Duiven, Rapid Vienna's Ferdy Druijf and Netherlands-based Heracles Almelo and Sem Scheperman.
