New Selangor boss says no place for 'pretty boys' in the team

KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor's newly appointed coach Nidzam Jamil said he is an "old school" guy. And he has no place for "pretty boys" who only want to go in and out of the pitch, looking nice.

In fact, the Kajang-born coach believes that the muddier the players' kit, the better they play.

Nidzam, 43, said he wants players who are ready to hit the wall and go the extra mile for Selangor.

"I want players who are willing to go the extra mile for their teammates and support each other.

"I am an old school guy, so I like it when they go out and get wet with their shirts and pants because it shows what they are doing for the team. This shows character."

Nidzam was announced earlier today by Selangor FC as their head coach for the 2024-2025 Super League season. He replaced Tan Cheng Hoe who left last month to take over Thai club Police Tero.

On the challenges that come with his post, Nidzam said: "I think every job is filled with pressure, the postmen, police, and teachers. We are pressured every day.

"We're being judged daily, and the pressure is there in Selangor. But with the pressure, we'll go far."

Nidzam has been part of Selangor's coaching set-up since November, 2021. He was appointed as interim head coach twice, the first after the departure of German Michael Feichtenbeiner in 2022.
