Hee Ying gunning for hat-trick at RSGC Open

KUALA LUMPUR: Two-time winner, Loy Hee Ying, is gunning for a hat-trick at the Royal Selangor Golf Club (RSGC) Ladies Amateur Open on August 10-12.

Hee Ying has won the tournament back to back in 2016 and 2017.

The last person to have captured the title thrice was Lim Ai Lian (1991, 1997 and 1998).

Top ranked national amateur and World No 122 Hee Ying is the only Malaysian confirmed for the three-day tournament, which has attracted 40 golfers so far, as confirmed by tournament Organising Chairperson, Datuk Yasmin Yusuff.

“We’re now waiting for Sri Lanka, Thailand and Malaysia. The closing date in on August 3 and the event is open to amateur players with a USGA handicap of 17.4 and lower or 20 for clubs.

“We already have national teams from Vietnam, Bangladesh and Kazakhstan who will feature a 15-year-old with a handicap of 0.3.”

Hee Ying, who represented Malaysia at last year’s Sea Games, will be up against amateurs from Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Kazakhstan and Sri Lanka, who will vie for four trophies – Tuanku Bahiyah (gross champion), Toh Puan Norashikin (nett champion), Datin Azian (team gross champion) and Clarissa Lee (team nett champion).

In conjunction with RSGC’s 125th anniversary, the club also unveiled its first ever tournament logo in the competition’s 44th edition.
