Jazeman eyes strong finish at Sepang

KUALA LUMPUR: After his team’s sensational victory at Buriram last weekend, Jazeman Jaafar is hoping to consolidate with an equally strong performance at the Asian Le Mans Series (ALMS) season-ender in Sepang on Feb 2-4.

Jazeman and his Jackie Chan DC Racing X Jota racing teammates Weiron Tan and Afiq Ikhwan Yazid, however, cannot be overconfident on their home track.

The trio had only joined DC Racing midway through the season at the end of last year. Buriram was their first race together in the LMP2 class.

"As I have said before, our long term goal is to go to the 24 Hours of Le Mans (in France) but for now, our focus is on Sepang as we want to finish the season on a high," said Jazeman, when contacted on Wednesday.

"Despite coming from different backgrounds, I think Weiron, Afiq and I have gelled very well.

"We produced a result (in Buriram) that has shocked everyone, including the competitive European drivers in ALMS.

"Nevertheless, there is still a big learning curve for us to overcome and of course, we cannot be overconfident as the standard of competition is very high.

"What we need is more mileage in the car until we are comfortable with it.”

Jazeman, who has not competed at Sepang since winning the Formula BMW Asia Championships in 2007, added that he is looking forward to once again race on his home track.

"I have not raced there for a long time. It will definitely be interesting to compete there in the LMP2 car which have a lot of pace and grip."

Jazeman had spent the last two seasons competing in the Blancpain Endurance Series.
