Cub Prix rider Zaidy dies in road accident

KUALA LUMPUR: The Cub Prix community suffered a huge loss on Sunday as popular rider Zaidy Mohd Zaifaizal tragically passed away in a road accident.

Zaidy was reported to be on the way to Kuala Lumpur from Seremban when he lost control of his Yamaha Y15ZR at kilometre 22.9 of the Lekas Highway at 3.20am. He was 26.

The Penang-born rider was a well liked figure on the Cub Prix circuit and had spent close to 10 years competing for YY Pang Racing until parting ways with them at the end of 2016.

YY Pang Racing team manager Gary Pang described his demise as a huge loss to the sport.

"Zaidy was with us for a very long time, about eight years and I remember him mainly as someone who was immensely talented," said Gary.

"He was also very helpful and as one of the senior riders in the team, he always looked out for the up-and-coming riders riders.

"He would always do his best to advice them and guide them in whatever way he could. It is definitely a huge loss to the sport."

Zaidy had raced in both the CP115 and CP130 classes during his career.

He did not race full season last year and only made two appearances as a replacement rider with M-Seki Liberty last season.
