Shafiq, Radin come up tops at Macau Open Bowling Championship

KUALA LUMPUR: It was the perfect Hari Raya gift for Syafiq Ridhwan Abdul Malek and Radin Nur Najwa Arifah Radin Dzulfakar who came out tops at the Macau Open Bowling Championships on Saturday.

In the men's open stepladder final, top seed Syafiq saw off South Korea's Baek Jong Yun 251-215 to win his first title since the National Championships in 2013.

Local bowler Zoe Dias Ma settled for third.

"It feels great to be a winner again, especially after such a long time," said Syafiq who won the World Cup in 2012.

"I came close at the Singapore Open last week, finishing third, so I wasn't going to be denied again."

In the women's open, Radin showed great composure to oust her more experienced opponent to clinch her first international title.

After losing the first game 248-194 to Indonesia's Putty Armein, Radin stepped up to make sure the title followed her back with a 213-194 win in the decider.

South Korea's Lee Young Seung finished third.

Syafiq and Radin pocketed 70,000 Macanese pataca (approximately RM37,000) and 40,000 Macanese pataca (approximately RM21,000) respectively in prize money.
