BUKIT JALIL: Amateur Swimming Union of Malaysia (Asum) have confirmed that Wendy Ng, who is provisionally suspended for failing a drug test, will not be part of the national diving team for the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games on April 4-15.
Wendy tested positive for the banned substance sibutramine, a stimulant commonly found in slimming products but is on the banned list of substances by the World Anti-Doping Agency, at last year's Kuala Lumpur Sea Games.
ASUM secretary Mae Chen said Fina, the world governing body for aquatics, have yet to decide on Wendy’s suspension.
“Wendy cannot be part of our diving team as we do not know how long she will be suspended.
“Her case will deliberated soon by Fina’s anti-doping committee.
“The diver has also informed Fina that the ban substance found in her urine test may have come from a drink,” said Mae after Asum’s working committee meeting with the National Sports Council on Friday.
Mae said Asum have handed the documents pertaining Wendy’s case to Fina.
“We are still waiting for Fina’s decision. Wendy has been serving a temporary suspension since October last year.
“The maximum suspension for her doping offence is two years,” said Mae, who added that Wendy’s participation in the Indonesia Asian Games in August will also depend on the duration of her suspension.
