(Shooting) Shooter Abdul Malek eyes national team return

SUBANG JAYA: Abdul Malek Abd Hadi hopes to regain his spot in the national shooting team.

In Sunday’s final day of the Selangor Shooting Championships at the Subang Shooting Range, the shooter, representing Police, won the men’s 50m pistol event by posting 220 points, followed by Wafiq Mohamad Zin (217.10) and last year’s Sea Games champion Jonathan Wong (192).

Abdul Malek, who left the national team in 2016 to focus on his career, believes he still has what it takes to represent the country.

"I believe I still have it. I still train regularly.

“I achieved three podium finishes in last year’s local circuit which is the minimum criteria to earn a spot in the national team.

"I will seriously consider rejoining the national team if I get an offer letter,” said Abdul Malek.

In the women's 10m air rifle final, Nur Suryani Taibi won the gold medal with a 248.10 total. Nur Fatin Syairah Abdul Lathif took second on 245.20 while Shahera Raja Rahim finished third with 219.80.

Armed Forces topped the medal tally in the four-day event with six gold, followed by Police (five gold) and Pahang (four).
