GOLD COAST: Muhamad Syafiq Kamal-Ng Eain Yow were left with no other choice but to ‘sacrifice’ fellow Malaysians Nafiizwan Adnan-Ivan Yuen to march to the quarter-finals of the men’s doubles squash event at Oxenford Studios as they won their encounter, 4-11, 11-9, 11-10.
Their earlier success in defeating Uganda’s Michael Kawooya-Ian Rukunya 11-2, 11-2 in the group stage set up a highly anticipated quarter-final clash between the two Malaysian pairs, in which Syafiq-Eain Yow prevailed over Nafiizwan-Ivan in 76 minutes.
They will now face Scottish pair Alan Clyne-Greg Lobban in tomorrow’s (Friday) quarter-final.
Meanwhile, in the third round of mixed doubles action, Aifa Azman-Sanjay Singh lost 11-7, 6-11, 8-11 to India’s Dipika Pallikal Karthink-Saurav Goshal.
“It was a good experience for Sanjay and myself as this was the first time that we were playing together in an international tournament,” said Aifa.
