CIMB behind the success of Malaysian squash

KUALA LUMPUR: The Squash Racquets Association of Malaysia (SRAM) are confident that CIMB Foundation will continue to support the sport and develop up-and-coming players.

SRAM president Huang Ying How said the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games squad had several players who were formerly under the CIMB programme.

"CIMB’s continual support since 2006 is one of the reasons our junior development programme has become the most successful grassroots initiative in the country.” said Ying How at the launch of the CIMB Rising Stars National Junior Circuit (RSNJC) and CIMB National Junior Circuit (NJC) in Melaka on Wednesday.

"Our achievements at the Asian and World Junior level competitions show that young Malaysians can compete with the best players,” he said.

RSNJC caters for the Under-11 and Under-13 age groups while NJC focuses on the Under-15, Under-17 and Under-19 groups.

A total of 517 players have been registered for this year’s edition.

RSNJC begins in Melaka on Thursday, followed by the Pahang leg on May 10-13.

NJC will be held in Penang (May 1-5) and Selangor (July 26-29).

The grand final is in Bukit Jalil on Aug 6-12.
