Azim no longer NSI chairman

KUALA LUMPUR: Sports Ministry chief secretary Datuk Lokman Hakim Ali has confirmed that they have terminated the contract of Datuk Seri Abdul Azim Zabidi as chairman of the National Sports Institute (NSI).

Lokman explained: “Apart from the NSI chairman post, other committee members who were appointed by the previous government were also told to leave as this is in line with the new directive to end the contracts of staff who were politically appointed.

"They have all received letters from the new administration, thanking them for their service.

"For now, the position of the new NSI chairman is still under discussion with the Sports Minister (Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman)," said Lokman on Monday.

Azim took over the role of NSI chairman from Datuk Seri Norza Zakaria in May last year.

Lokman also said top officials with the National Sports Council will remain for now.

"Datuk Ahmad Shapawi Ismail is still the council’s director general. Changes will be for those whose contracts have already expired," added Lokman.
