IPOH: Attar Azim Syukran Jamil's uncle will shoulder the responsibility of caring for the child who lost four family members, including his parents, in a crash at KM76.5 of Jalan Kota Bharu-Gua Musang near Kampung Pahi, Kuala Krai, Kelantan last Saturday.
Nor Azam Ab Hamid, 45, said he would fulfill the duty of taking care of nine-year-old Attar Azim, who is the child of his late younger brother, Syukran Jamil Ab Hamid, 35, to the best of his ability.
Nor Azam is the fourth of nine siblings, while Syukran Jamil is the eighth.
"After discussing, (it was decided that) our family in (Felda) Trolak will be taking care of Attar," he said briefly when contacted by Bernama here today.
Meanwhile, Perak Women, Family, Social Welfare, Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Committee chairman Datuk Salbiah Mohamed said the state's Social Welfare Department (SWD) would provide appropriate assistance to Attar Azim.
She said the SWD had visited the next-of-kin of Attar Azim in Felda Trolak Utara, Sungkai today.
"Usually we will provide child support. If there are no relatives to care for them, we will place them in a children's shelter.
"InshaAllah, we will arrange for assistance for Attar Azim," she said.
Yesterday, the remains of Syukran Jamil and his wife, Noor Aishah Razali, 35, along with their two children, Ahya Rafiqi, 6, and Lufya Adeena, 1, were buried in a single grave at about 11 pm.
In the incident at 1.40 pm on Saturday, Syukran Jamil, along with Noor Aishah and Lufya Adeena, were confirmed dead at the scene, while Ahya Rafiqi passed away while receiving treatment at the hospital. However, Attar Azim, who was involved in the accident, survived.
The accident is believed to have occurred when the Perodua Myvi driven by Syukran Jamil from Kota Bharu towards Gua Musang collided with a Nissan March driven by a Thai national who entered the lane from the opposite direction.
The family was on its way back to Kuala Lumpur after visiting relatives and vacationing in Kota Bharu, Kelantan. – BERNAMA
