Malaysia hit eight past Hong Kong

JAKARTA: Malaysia opened their Asian Games women’s hockey campaign by thrashing Hong Kong 8-0 in a Pool A match at the GBK Stadium on Sunday.

Although, it was a comprehensive win in terms of the number of goals, Malaysia could have scored more had they been sharper.

Hong Kong did not trouble Malaysia but were tight in their own half.

Malaysia goals were scored by Nuraini Rashid (13th, 45th, 57th), Nur Amirah Shafikah Zulkifli (16th, 34th), Hanis Nadia Onn (32nd), Fazila Sylvester Silin (50th) and Norazlin Sumantri (58th)

“I am not too concerned about getting the goals as it was the three points that mattered,” said coach K. Dharmaraj.

“As for the penalty corners, two resulted in penalty strokes and we scored from one, so in terms of conversion rate it was not too bad.”

Malaysia will take on China on Thursday.
