Three Esport teams carry Malaysia challenge at World Championships

KUALA LUMPUR: As champions of the national qualifiers, HXI Zaba, Team FrostFire and Team Int Central will represent Malaysia in the World Championships on Nov 5-13 in Taiwan.

The meet, in its 10th edition, offers US$54,000 (RM224,000) in prize money. It is the largest in the International Esport Federation (IeSF) history.

The National Qualifiers, organised by Esports Malaysia (ESM) from Sept 2-3, saw 196 people take part in three official games: Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO), League of Legends (LoL) and Tekken 7.

HXI Zaba, who finished eighth at last year’s World Championships, will once again represent Malaysia in Tekken 7. They emerged victorious over VS.AMG I GTM and HXI Ashinomori who finished second and third, respectively.

Team Frostfire came out tops in CS:GO while Team Cove and Team Virtual Genesis finished second and third.

Team Int Central took top honours for LoL while Team Washed Up Players and Last Minutes Team were second and third.

As winners of the National Qualifiers, the teams will receive RM22,000 in sponsorship for flight and accommodation from ESM, who plan to conduct boot camps for the players in preparation for the World Championship.

IESF World Championships is the only international Esport tournament based on national representation, and this is the third year ESM will be sending a Malaysian contingents to the IESF World Championships.
