Malaysian women's dodgeball out for world hat-trick

KUALA LUMPUR: The national women’s dodgeball team will be looking for a historic hat-trick by winning the gold at the World Championship in Los Angeles from Oct 8-13.

If the national women’s team succeed at the event, organised by the World Dodgeball Federation (WDBF), they would break the record set by Canada, who won the tournament twice.

The men’s team will also be looking to defend their world crown, a title they won when they defeated Canada 8-6 in the final last year.

For the seventh edition, Malaysia have selected 12 men and 12 women following a one-year training period coached by Albert Tan.

The World Championships will see 12 countries competing: USA, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Italy, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand, China, France, Puerto Rico and Malaysia.

Malaysia is the number one nation in dodgeball after earning two gold medals (women’s and men’s) in last year’s World Championships, only the second country in the competition’s six year history to win both titles in the same year. The United States achieved the feat in 2015.
