Clean sweep by Shahriman and Co

DATUK Megat D Shahriman Zaharudin and his team made a clean sweep of the Kuala Lumpur HA (KLHA) elections yesterday, signalling exciting times for grassroots development in the city.

Newly-minted president Shahriman is a person who does not hide his emotions, and if one is not used to his sincere comments, he or she would consider him outright offensive.

He has not only brought a new team into KLHA but loads of ideas as well as cash to bail out the shrinking KLHA coffers.

Shahriman defeated incumbent Datuk Abu Huraira Yazid 21-11 for the top post.

Former International I. Vikneswaran made his entry as deputy president with a 20-12 win over incumbent S. Samson.

The vice-presidents voted in were Faris Mustafa (26 votes), Wan Faizal Ismail (23), Hezibah Sudin (23), S. Vigneswaran (22) and Meor Shahril Saarani (17).

Incumbent vice-president K. Maheswari withdrew her nomination before the elections.

V. Muthu Kannu won the secretary’s post unopposed following the withdrawal of V. Rajamanickam.

Rajamanickam, who has served KLHA for almost three decades, withdrew minutes before the ballots were cast yesterday.

Treasurer Daljit Singh also won unopposed.

“I would like to thank the outgoing president and his men, and with this new team, I hope to bring positive changes in junior development at the KLHA Stadium.

“And since we owe money to DBKL (City Hall), we will meet them soon to settle the outstanding.

“We will conduct our first meeting soon so that I can lay out my plans for Kuala Lumpur hockey,” said Shahriman.

KLHA have the most active state league in the country but are in serious debts.
