Shalin strikes gold in Kuwait

KUALA LUMPUR: Bowler Shalin Zulkifli blazed the lanes in Kuwait to win the women’s singles gold medal at the Asian Championships today.

The 41-year-old turned the tables on the favourites by posting a 1,498 six-game total for the gold at the 48-lane Kuwait Bowling Sporting Club.

Indonesia’s Nadia Pramanik finished second on 1,492 while Sin Li Jane took third with 1,471.

“Shalin was consistent and delivered her winning strike in the final frame to seal the gold medal for the country,” said team manager Maradona Chok in Kuwait today.

For Shalin, the victory is fulfilling as she has now answered her critics who felt that she was no longer competitive for international tournaments.

The 41-year-old was dropped from the World Championships squad in August following a string of poor performances.

And many thought, it was the end of her career.

However, she fought her way back in training and was subsequently included for the Asian meet.
