Malaysian lawn bowlers bag two bronze in Asian meet

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia won two bronze medals in the Asian Under-25 Lawn Bowls Championships in Pattaya today.

The up and coming Amirul Danial Abdul Rahim went down 21-15 to Hong Kong's Quentin Ip in the boys singles semi-finals while Ahmad Zikry Sazeli fell 21-10 to Thailand's Natthapol Phuangsawas.

Yesterday, the Malaysian team clinched one gold and two silver in the Asian championships, held concurrently with the Under-25 meet.

Defending champion Izzat Shameer Dzulkeple retained the men's singles gold after defeating James Po from Hong Kong 21-9 in the final.

The two silver medals were secured in the men's fours and women's triples.

The men's fours quartet comprising Mohamad Fadley, Hizlee Rais, Amin Ramlan and Soufi Rusli were beaten 15-10 by India's Abhisekh, Sunil Bahadar, Chandan Kumar Singh, and Alok Lakra.

Women's bowlers Alyani Jamil, Nor Farah Ain Abdullah, and Syafiqa Rahman settled for the triples silver after going down 18-14 to Philippines' Sharon Hauters, Hazel Jagonoy and Ainie Knight.
