KL Dragons breathing fire again

FOLLOWING three straight Asean Basketball League (ABL) defeats on the road, the KL Dragons found their bite once again as they roared to an impressive 91-63 win over the San Miguel Alab Pilipinas at the Maba Stadium on Tuesday.

It was a massive result for the Dragons as they dished out their biggest ever pounding on the 2017-18 champions.

As one of the toughest defensive teams in the league, the Dragons flew into a 24-14 first-quarter lead before extending it to 43-31 at halftime.

By the end of the third quarter, the Dragons were already up 67-45 and there was no coming back for Alab.

Will Artino once again led with 24 points while captain Kuek Tian Yuan had 16 points from the bench and the pair of Amir Bell and Cade Davis with 14 points each.

For Alab, Nick King provided 13 points and Prince Williams had 11 while 2.29m giant Samuel Deguara recorded only 10 points.

“I thought we’ve been playing good basketball, but this was the best game we’ve had in terms of executing on both ends of the floor,” said Dragons coach Jamie Pearlman.

“We put in a great defensive game plan, and we were disciplined on the offensive as well.

“Alab are a great team and they were looking pretty fatigued but we had to show up and play hard at the same time.

“Of course, I don’t want to get ahead of ourselves, but we are pleased with this result, especially since we’ve talked about how we wanted to be the toughest home court in the league,” added Pearlman.

The Dragons are now fifth in the standings on a 5-5 record and will look to keep their momentum going when they entertain the Saigon Heat tomorrow.
