Maybank slump to first MHL defeat

KUALA LUMPUR: Maybank suffered their first defeat in the Malaysia Hockey League (MHL), falling to a 3-0 loss to Tenaga Nasional in Bukit Jalil today.

Tigers coach Azrul Effendy Bistamam said his midfield failed to click at the National Hockey Stadium.

"We had some good games this season, but today, nothing went right for us. The midfield was in disarray, as I had a few players carrying injuries because of the hectic schedule.

"There is very little time to recover after matches, and those who get injured have to sit out for at least two games.

"But that's what every team is facing, and players need to adjust to the schedule before the return legs," he said.

Tenaga's goals were scored by Faiz Helmi Jali (35th), Shahril Saabah (47th) and Azrai Aizad Abu Kamal (56th).

In another match, TNB Thunderbolts beat National Development 2-0 with goals from Syawal Razak (52nd) and Che Aqilrullah Khairulzi (55th).

RESULTS: MEN -- Tenaga Nasional 3 Maybank 0, TNB Thunderbolts 2 National Development 0, UiTM HA 1 Terengganu HT 1.
