THT snatch MHL crown from Tenaga

KUALA LUMPUR: Terengganu Hockey Team (THT) snatched the Malaysia Hockey League (MHL) title from the jaws of Tenaga Nasional at Batu Buruk Stadium in Kuala Terengganu today.

Tenaga, with 30 points, only needed a draw to regain their MHL crown, while THT, on 29, had to beat their rivals.

THT did just enough by winning 3-2 to become champions.

Faizal Saari was the toast of THT by scoring a brace in the 48th and 57th minutes, while Firdaus netted their opening goal in the 30th minute.

Tenaga replied through Azril Misron (11th minute) and Shahril Saabah (54th).

Maybank, meanwhile, finished third with 25 points, six more than fourth-placed UiTM HA.

TNB Thunderbolts took the fifth position on 12, followed by National Development (six points) and NurInsafi Sporting (no points).

THT will face UiTM in the TNB Cup semi-finals. Tenaga, meanwhile, will take on Maybank for a place in the final.

"We had the home advantage today, and we were motivated to use it and claim our second title of the season after our Charity Shield success," said THT coach Roslan Jamaluddin today.

"We will now prepare for the TNB Cup, and hopefully, we can claim another title for a treble."

THT are expected to face Tenaga in the TNB Cup final.

RESULTS: NurInsafi 1 Maybank 8, UiTM HA 5 TNB Thunderbolts 1, Terengganu HT 3 Tenaga Nasional 2.
