SSTMI crowned Mirnawan Cup champions

KUALA LUMPUR: Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sports School (SSTMI) hammered Japan 4-1 in the final to become the Mirnawan Cup boys' Under-17 champions at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil today.

SSTMI scored through Haziq Zunnurrain (first minute), Azimuddin Syakir (25th), Mohammed Syazean (35th) and Danish Haikal (43rd).

In the girls' Under-14 final, Sports Odisha from India hammered SSTMI 5-0.

Drupati Naik (second), Liona Lakra (eighth, 22nd) and Nirmala Senbar (19th, 24th) netted for Odisha.

SSTMI coach Wan Roslan Rahman said: "As promised we kept the Mirnawan Cup Under-17 trophy in Malaysia.

"This tournament is an important part of junior development in Malaysia. My players gained exposure by playing against foreign teams."
