Asian Games: Malaysian gamers win Dota 2 bronze

HANGZHOU: The Malaysian Dota 2 squad hadn't got over the disappointment of missing out on the gold medal in eSports earlier at the Asian Games when they met Kyrgyzstan in the bronze medal playoff today.

However, the team of Yap Jian Wei, Ng Wei Poong, Cheng Jin Xiang, Chan Kok Hong, Thiay Jun Wen, and Tue Soon Chun still won 2-0.

Coach Cai Yifeng had confidently said earlier that the gold would be won by either China or Malaysia.

However, due to technical issues which put the Malaysians at a huge disadvantage, they went down 2-1 to China in the semi-finals on Sunday.

"It's not the result that we wanted. We wanted the gold but we have to accept the fact that for now, the bronze is all that we can give to Malaysia.

"I promise one day we will win that gold," said Yifeng.

For the record, the Dota 2 medal was Malaysia's second in eSports from the Hangzhou Asiad, after the Arena of Valor team contributed a silver last week.
