Sanjay wins his first PSA Challenger title

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian squash player Sanjay Jeeva won his maiden PSA Challenger Tour title - the Bermuda Open yesterday.

The world No. 76 and second seed overcame world No. 122 and sixth seed Andres Herrera of Colombia 11-7, 11-7, 11-3 in 45 minutes in the final.

Sanjay, 24, who is based in the United States, said: "I'm thrilled with this win. I played a smart game, prolonging the rallies. Andres looked a bit tired after the semi-final.

"I have won a number of PSA satellite tournaments, but this is the first time I won a Challenger Tour. I've finally accomplished something on the tour," said Sanjay who hopes to break into the world top 50.

Squash Racquets Association of Malaysia director Major (rtd) S. Maniam said: "Sanjay is the player to watch in PSA tournaments and there is more to come from him."
