Glass court injury scare for Wee Wern at Malaysia Squash Cup

SEREMBAN: Veteran Low Wee Wern is anxiously hoping to stay injury-free for her second-round match at the Ace Malaysia Squash Cup tomorrow.

The injury-prone squash star had a scare when she fell on the glass court during her first-round 11-9, 11-2, 7-11, 13-11 victory over Egypt's Menna Hamed today at the Dato Mohd Said Sports Complex in Seremban Two, Negri Sembilan.

World No. 61 Wee Wern will face second seed Farida Mohamed of Egypt for a place in the quarter-finals tomorrow.

"I will probably know in a few hours whether I will be injury-free for the battle against Farida. Hopefully, I will be okay," said Wee Wern.

"Overall, I am quite happy with my first-round win. I am looking forward to playing against world No. 19 Farida."

The meeting will be their first, and Wee Wern views it as an opportunity to assess her performance against a top player.

She has undergone several knee surgeries since 2015.

Meanwhile, national champion Aira Azman secured her place in the second round by defeating compatriot J. Yasshmita 11-9, 14-12, 12-10.
