Eain Yow moves into Malaysia Squash Cup last eight

KUALA LUMPUR: National No. 1 Ng Eain Yow reached the Ace Malaysia Squash Cup quarter-finals by beating Egypt's Ibrahim Elkabbani 11-8, 11-8, 11-8 at Mohd Said Sports Complex in Seremban 2 yesterday,

The fourth seeded Malaysian won the second round match in 46 minutes to set up a date with France's

sixth seed Sebastien Bonmalais.

World No. 20 Eain Yow said: "It was not an easy win over the young Egyptian whom I played for the first time.

"It was also the first time I played at the venue, and for me it was about getting used to the glass court," said the Asian champion.

Eain Yow will have a psychological edge against Bonmalais, having beaten the latter 3-1 in the Cleveland Open final last year.

National player Addeen Idrakie went down 7-11, 6-11, 4-11 to India's fifth seed Saurav Ghosal while teammate Ivan Yuen were edged 14-12, 5-11, 7-11, 11-7, 11-13 by Swiss Dimitri Steinmann.

In the women's competition, seventh seed S. Sivasangari beat England's Alicia Mead 11-4, 11-3, 12-10, and will face Hong Konger Lee Ka Yi, who upset fourth seed Aifa Azman 11-8, 11-7, 7-11, 11-4, for a place in the semi-finals.

Sivasangari said: "I had played the Hong Kong player a few times. She plays an attacking game."

The other Malaysian to reach the last eight was national No. 2 Rachel Arnold, who overcame compatriot Aira Azman 11-6, 10-12, 11-8, 5-11, 15-13.

World No. 39 Rachel will face Egypt's world No. 19 Farida Mohamed next. Second seed Farida defeated Low Wee Wern 11-3, 11-0, 11-4.
