Jumper Kirthana disappointed with two gold

KUALA LUMPUR: Universiti Putra Malaysia's R. Kirthana was disappointed despite clinching two gold, in the women's triple jump and long jump, in the Institution of Higher Learning (IPT) Athletics Grand Finals at the Arena Stadium of Universiti Malaya today.

Kirthana leaped 5.77m for the long jump gold, but missed the meet record by one centimetre. In the triple jump on Saturday, her 12.66m was far from her personal best of 13.48m.

"My efforts were nowhere near my PB. I will have to train hard to break the national

long jump record (6.29m) and triple jump record (13.90m) next year."

UPM's Anas Ariffin, who broke the men's 1,500m record on Saturday, also bagged the 800m gold by clocking 1:55.09. USM's Varunesh Selvaraj (1:59.45) and UM's Luqman Daniel Kammal (2:02.93) finished second and third respectively.

UPM's national sprinter Jonathan Nyepa won the men's 100m final by posting 10.66, but it was way off his PB of 10.28.

Uniten's Fakhrul Abdul Aziz settled for silver (10.76) while UiTM's Aqil Yasmin (10.84) took bronze.

UPM's Azreen Nabila Alias clinched the women's 100m title by posting 12.37. Nor Sarah Adi, also from UPM, won silver (12.62) and UMS' Chelsea Cassiopea Evali Bopulas won bronze (12.70).

UPM's Rizzua Haizad (14.22) won the 110m hurdles. Aftar Rosli (14.85) won silver and UPM's Benedict Ian Gawok (15.15) earned bronze.
