Harleein and Hisshan make parents proud

KUALA LUMPUR: Tan siblings Harleein and Hisshan Nair made their parents proud by winning the girls' Under-15 and boys' Under-11 titles in the REDtone Kuala Lumpur International Junior Championships today.

In the semi-finals, Harleein from Negri Sembilan defeated Jinoreeka Ning of Perak 11-5, 11-3, 11-1 and in the final she eliminated T. Dhaksyani of Kuala Lumpur 11-5, 11-3, 11-5.

Harleein said: "It is my fourth ReDtone title. This is my best performance thus far.

"I finished 3-0 throughout and my accuracy has improved a lot. I would like to thank my coaches Zulfiqar Khan and Hafifi for their hard work and my school Kolej Tuanku Ja'afar (KTJ) and CIMB for their unwavering support."

Hisshan came back from a set down to beat Muhammad Sharhan of 10-12, 11-9, 11-7, 11-3 in the semis and in the final he outplayed Mori Hiroto of Japan 11-6, 11-4, 11-4.

Hisshan said he did well in this tournament.

"The semi finals were challenging but I am happy that I got through. I have been training very hard to end the year with good results and it worked well. The next stop is the Singapore Junior Open and I hope to win the title too."

To date Harleein has won more than 40 titles at national and international level.

"We are very happy to have two champions under one roof. Both worked very hard. This is not the first time both siblings won the championship together. A month ago they won the CIMB National Junior Circuit titles too.

"We are extremely happy with how they are shaping up under their coaches Zulfiqar Khan and Hafifi. Thanks to their school KTJ for their unwavering support," said both the parents.

In the girls Under-19 competition, third seed Goh Zhi Xuan upset second seed Whitney Isabelle 11-5, 11-6, 7-11, 11-5 in the final.
