Christian trains at home on makeshift court

NATIONAL No 1 Christian Didier Chin has come up with a makeshift “tennis court” to train on at home during the Movement Control Order (MCO).

Christian, who is currently back in his hometown in Kota Kinabalu, said it was important to continue training with a racquet instead of only doing fitness drills.

“I try to stay disciplined during the MCO through fitness and training in whatever way is possible,” said the 19-year-old.

“We don’t have a huge compound here (at home) but my dad and I were still able to set up a small tennis court.

“We put a little net in the middle, and he (dad) feeds me balls to volley and things like that. I can also hit against the wall.

“I feel that it’s important to keep training with the racquet to maintain muscle memory.

“I also do a lot of bodyweight exercises and use exercise bands (rubber bands) to maintain my strength.”

Christian, whose father Christopher is also his manager, has been training under Iranian coach Saeed Afzalirad since October.

The youngster did well to reach the final of the opening leg of the National Circuit in Kuala Lumpur in late February. He lost to Indonesian David Agung Susanto in the final.
