Watch: Girl killed as Ferris wheel carriage breaks loose, plunges 50 feet

VIDEO IS GRAPHIC. VIEWER DISCRETION IS ADVISED

KUALA LUMPUR: ‘Shiok’ turned to shock at an amusement park in India on Sunday night when a Ferris wheel carriage broke loose and plunged 50 feet to the ground, spilling its seven occupants as it fell.

A 10-year-old girl was killed on-the-spot while six others – including three children – were seriously injured in the horrific accident in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh.

A chilling mobile phone-captured video of the tragedy has been widely viewed online, and shows all too clearly the horror, swiftness and surreality of the event.

Even if you were to turn away from the footage at the moment of disaster, the din of the riders’ cries of excitement turning instantly into screams of anguish will haunt you.

According to the Daily Mail, several fairgoers had earlier noticed that a bolt on the ill-fated carriage was loose and alerted the wheel operator. However, the worker, which India.com alleges was drunk at the time, failed to act.

Immediately after the accident, the wheel operator was pounced upon by angry members of the public and beaten up.

He had to be rescued by police, who later arrested him.
