KUALA LUMPUR: Perhaps inspired by Mission Impossible movies in which characters thoroughly disguise themselves using first-rate prosthetic makeup, a Thai man transformed himself into a Caucasian tourist as part of a plot to rob a jewellery store.
According to Says, former cosmetics seller Wangsakorn Petchsanan, 30, used his expert makeup skills to alter his appearance from a Southeast Asian man to a blonde, blue-eyed Westerner.
With his prosthetic nose, blue contact lenses, dyed-blonde hair and fake beard, and skin bronzer, Wangsakorn looked every bit the ‘farang’ (white tourist) when he sauntered into the Aurora goldsmith outlet at a Bangkok supermarket on Dec 3.
Although his make-up skills were almost flawless, his theft modus operandi was laughably amateurish.
After asking to see four necklaces worth a total of RM59,000, Wangsakorn grabbed the jewellery and simply sprinted out of the store towards a waiting moto-taxi outside, Coconuts KL reported.
But a quick-acting security guard who noticed a commotion at the shop, chased after and grabbed the wannabe-thief, and apprehended him until the police arrived.
The stereotype about blondes being “not too bright” has been proven once again – by a brown Asian man.
