Video game helps man lose 9kg in just 30 days

KUALA LUMPUR: One of the biggest criticisms of video gaming is that it promotes an unhealthy lifestyle and has given birth to a generation of couch potatoes.

But one man from Pasig City, the Philippines has turned that notion on its head, as he recently revealed how a Nintendo Switch game changed his life for the better.

Gamer Migui Minaj, who was overweight, credited the Ring Fit Adventure by Nintendo Switch with helping him lose as much as 9kg in just 30 days.

He recently took to Facebook to share his experience of going from 78kg to 69kg, stating that he only played the game for 25 minutes a day.

However, he also emphasised that a good diet is also essential in attaining maximum benefit from the fitness game.

In his post, written in both English and Tagalog, he wrote: “30 days of Ring Fit Adventure! From overweight to normal weight!

“This Nintendo Ring Fit is very effective, especially if there is a right diet. I only play for 25 minutes and am so happy. Onwards to more victories in 2020.”

Goodyfeed.com quoted Migui as saying that he regularly checks his weighing scale at home and has now achieved his ideal BMI (69kg) for a 5’6” guy.

Migui, who had been overweight for several years, shared that he had tried shedding his excess weight by cycling to work and playing a boxing game on Nintendo Switch, but he said none of them seemed to have made an impact until he discovered Ring Fit Adventure.

“I figured that Ring Fit Adventure might be a better motivator than the (other games). True enough, it did work!”

“The diet tips I would like to share is to cut carbs in your daily consumption. I usually stick with one cup of rice a day and no more meals after 7pm. Combining this with Ring Fit Adventure helped me reduce my numbers,” he was quoted as saying in the article.

For those unfamiliar with how Ring Fit Adventure works, it is a bona fide action or role-playing game where players move on the spot and perform exercises such as squats or by squeezing the ring.

Ring Fit Adventure has been especially popular in Japan and has been in and out of stock over the last several weeks.

According to Metro.co.uk, the game currently ranks number three in Japan.
