JAKARTA: The Asean region experienced 27 disasters that impacted Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Vietnam last week, according to the AHA Centre in its weekly update report.
According to AHA Centre (The Asean Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management), Indonesia's emergency response team, BNPB, documented instances of tornadoes, strong winds, and flooding in several provinces, including West Java, North Sumatra, Aceh, Lampung, and Banten.
Furthermore, BNPB observed drought conditions in Riau Islands, Bali, South Kalimantan, and Central Sulawesi, in addition to a 6.3 magnitude earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara, which had an impact on 920 individuals.
In the Philippines, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) recorded severe local storms and floods in Cotabato province, along with a dry spell in Misamis Oriental province.
Both BNPB in Indonesia and DSWD in the Philippines emphasised the significant consequences of drought and reduced rainfall.
In Malaysia, the National Disaster Management Agency reported that the effects of persistent rain continue to affect the states of Pahang, Perak, and Selangor.
Vietnam Disaster and Dyke Management Authority reported landslides, flooding, storms, and tornadoes in Ben Tre, Ha Tinh, and An Giang provinces.
Continuous rainfall from local storms in Vietnam caused landslides, flooding, impacting 37,600 people and US$6 million (RM28.02 million) in damage, AHA Centre noted. – Bernama
