Malaysia held by Scotland

THE national Under-21 hockey team were held 1-1 by Scotland's Under-23 side in a friendly at the Clydesdale Hockey and Cricket Club in Glasgow on Friday.

Akhimullah Anuar Esook scored the equaliser a minute from time to cancel out Scotland's goal in the 10th minute. It was their seventh friendly in the United Kingdom.

Coach Wallace Tan is preparing his squad for the India Junior World Cup on Nov 24-Dec 5.

"The team kept pushing hard for an equaliser to deny Scotland a win.

"They showed great fighting spirit throughout the match. It shows they are on the right track for the Junior World Cup," said Wallace yesterday.

Malaysia will play Scotland again in their final Tour of Britain friendly today.

Meanwhile, the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) have marked the postponed women's Asian Champions Trophy on Dec 5-12 in Donghae, South Korea.

Defending champions Korea, China, India, Japan, Malaysia and Thailand are the confirmed teams for the tournament.
