Motorists causing Bangsar Baru traffic havoc

KUALA LUMPUR: A shop owner in Bangsar Baru says indiscriminately parked vehicles are causing traffic congestion and inconveniencing business operators.

Haliza Ismail, 30, said: “Motorists park their vehicles at will. This is common during lunch.”

She said it was a longstanding problem which the authorities had failed to address.

“It is affecting our business badly, and even though we have brought it up with the authorities many times, the problem persists.”

ACTIONLINE:

City Traffic Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Nadzri Hussain said they were aware of the traffic situation in Bangsar Baru and the area was in the priority list.

“We conduct regular operations in the area and issue summonses to traffic offenders. Patrols are conducted daily in the area,” he said.

Nadzri said special teams were deployed to Bukit Bintang, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman and the Pavillion area.

He added, however, that the cooperation of City Hall, residents and the business community was needed for more effective enforcement.

“We will continue to monitor the area and increase patrols to regulate traffic flow in heavily- congested areas.”
