Baling dumpsite hazard

AN illegal dumpsite near a river along Jalan Baling-Kupang, Kedah, is not only an eyesore, but also poses a health hazard to residents.

A resident, who wished to be identified only as Hasnah, said she was worried that the site would become a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

She said the dumpsite was a few metres from the roadside opposite the Baling Rakan Muda Complex.

“Those who throw their garbage there might think it is okay to do so because the site is hidden from view, but they do not consider the threat to residents.

“I urge the authorities to clean up the area and put up a sign to stop people from throwing rubbish there.

“The site is just across the Rakan Muda Complex, which hosts events for Baling district, so the dumpsite is not good for the town’s image,” she said.
