RESIDENTS of Taman Pinggiran USJ in Subang Jaya have urged local authorities to take action against stray dogs in the neighbourhood, claiming that the dogs pose a danger to the residents, especially kids and the elderly.
They said the strays, which move in a pack of six to eight, act aggressively, especially when they encountered pet dogs.
The strays have also been rummaging through rubbish bins, creating a mess.
Noor Ashikin Ismail, 35, said she feared for the safety of her family, especially after witnessing an incident where a girl was chased by six dogs recently.
“It was terrifying. Luckily, someone helped the poor girl. Many parents have expressed concern. They lamented that they could no longer bring their kids to the playground due to the presence of the strays.”
She said she had filed a complaint with the Subang Jaya Municipal Council last year, and followed up with numerous phone calls, yet the problem persisted.
“I talked to the officer from the council’s Health Department on the issue. The explanation I received was that the team of dog-catchers had not been able to catch the strays after several attempts, but would keep trying.”
She urged the council to hire more manpower to catch the strays and to use more effective methods.

Subang Jaya Municipal Council Corporate and Strategic Management Department de-puty director Azfarizal Abdul Rashid said they were taking the issue of stray dogs seriously and had been monitoring and conducting regular operations in the area after receiving complaints from residents.
From January last year until Feb 23 this year, Azfarizal said the council had conducted 27 operations in Taman Pinggiran USJ and caught 68 stray dogs.
